The concept of Take The Reins was formed in 2015 when like-minded individuals and organisations came together to develop a youth and community offer within the Horse Racing Industry. Take the Reins (TTR) was established as a community response to engaging with the racing industry, in recognition of a need for more engagement with deprived communities and the industry. TTR has taken the direction of supporting young people have greater access to the industry and bridge a gap, showcasing the ‘offer’ the industry has and building young people’s skills and knowledge where they may feel that the industry could be an avenue for employment. TTR providing enriching activities, vocational training, mentoring and support to ‘youth at risk’ in some of the UK’s most deprived communities. Since the start TTR has engaged over 2,000 young people, receiving informal education support to gain a broader insight to the industry whilst working with specialist youth and community development workers to challenge perceptions and build greater linkages with the industry.

We are now entering the next phase of the work and have recently incorporated a new Charity to drive the objectives of our work forward. We are seeking individuals with a commitment to make a difference to young people and communities. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved from the start and help shape the charity as we develop our business plan.
