Castleford Tiger’s and England international Luke Gale used the launch of Sport Society Success as a good opportunity to highlight and co-launch his ambitious plans for #KickingFor GrassRoots in 2019.
Kicking For Grass Roots plans to visit amateur clubs across every region in England next year. They hope to raise the profile of Rugby League and attendances as well as inspire and motivate young people.
The KFG Directors has picked three clubs to support across Yorkshire including Elland ARLFC in Calderdale, Wisbey Warriors in Bradford and Bentley ARLFC in Doncaster. These areas were supported as these were the communities and fans who have supported Luke throughout his careers. This work will include helping clubs raise funding, running festivals and summer camps and helping to raise the profile through social media.
Jamie McDonnell has had a busy few days working with over 80 students across Doncaster as part of the National Citizenship Programme.
The teenagers undertook a boxing skills session followed by a question and answer forum. Students got to ask Jamie about what it’s really like to be a boxer.
Jamie was also able to talk to them about careers and development opportunities that they perhaps wouldn’t have learnt about in school or college.
The National Citizenship Programme is a 4 week programme that enables young people (15-17 year olds) to challenge themselves with outdoor activities, giving them new skills to use in the future. The programme concludes with each student completing 30 hours volunteering in the local community through a social action project.
